If two subjects are very similar in terms of shapes and tones, and we use the same handful of colours, can we still create two paintings with completely different colour schemes!?...
...the answer, absolutely yes! And in this tutorial, I will show you how.
I talk you through the foundation of both these mountainscapes being simple yet accurate shapes of light and shadow.
Once we understand this we can explore creating these shapes and tones using completely different colours to give us two similar paintings with completely different feelings, light and moods!!
The first is cool with lots of blues. Even with simple tones, we can use a few tricks to exaggerate the feeling of light here.
The second is a warm colour scheme. Same idea, same process, totally different end result!! (I do swap the yellow out for a different one, but you can stick with exactly the same colours!!)
This one is great practice for being very specific and conscious with your colour mixes!!
I hope you enjoy this. Keep it simple. Keep it fun. Enjoy those colours!! Good luck.
