A very fun Rhino which we’re going to paint with lots of colours as well as focus on creating four different types of edges.
The lovely light and shadow shapes in this subject are the perfect opportunity to play around with non-literal/arbitrary colours. We really go to town with the colours on this one, but all the time focusing on simple light & shadow to make it work.
The other main focus of this tutorial is on edges - firstly creating slightly softer and fuzzier edges in the shadows by working more wet-in-wet - secondly by taking some time at the start to consider how the Rhino is going to interact with the background.
With a bit of pre-planning, we can get all four types of edges into the painting. This is a simple way to immediately elevate your painting to the next level!
These edges refer to how we are seeing the object (in this case the rhino) against its background. More explained in the tutorial but we have:
Light against shadow
Shadow against light
Shadow against shadow
Light against light
I hope you enjoy this one!
