Cotswold Landscape - Mixing Greens : Preview

This gentle Cotswold Landscape is the perfect subject to explore two key principles of watercolour painting, both particularly relevant to landscapes. These are two principles we will visit time and time again and of course, are very useful for any subject. This tutorial is gently laying the foundations for deeper dives down the line.

The first is mixing greens. Good old greens, so much potential for so many lovely colours but they can be a nightmare to handle. Green can very easily dominate a painting, and it is very easy for all our greens to become one big mess. However, with a few basic pointers on colour choices and how to mix our greens, plus a few other little tips and tricks, hopefully, we should start to really enjoy the subtlety and endless options of green, and with this start to see some better results in very green subjects!

The second principle is aerial perspective. In this case with a particular focus on using colour to create a sense of atmosphere, depth and recession. However, we will also use lots of other principles and techniques to further exaggerate this feeling of depth.
