Beach Scene - Creating Depth & Atmosphere : Preview

In this tutorial, we paint one of my favourite beaches here in Pembrokeshire, Druidston Haven.

There are two main principles we will focus on in this tutorial. The first is how we can use various different tricks to create a sense of depth and atmosphere in any painting, particularly landscapes and scenes.

We have a wide range of principles to call on from tonal values & colour to texture and how we use the paint.

The second focus of this tutorial is mixing greys, or we could call them muted or subdued colours. The key to this is understanding the colour wheel, and once we get that mixing a myriad of beautiful muted colours becomes very simple.

There’s a lot packed into this one. The end result is a very fun and very effective little scene with plenty of light, movement and character.
