He leads painting holidays and workshops around the UK and abroad, including painting safaris and regular courses around the UK. Including Pembrokeshire, Wales, his home.
In his own work, Tom is known for a loose, expressive, care-free and painterly style, and that same spirit runs through the School.
As well as always being excited to learn and grow as a painter, Tom genuinely loves sharing his experience and knowledge with others.
He knows how wonderful watercolour is, and helping others on their own journey is a real pleasure.
He’s well known for his friendly, approachable and carefree approach to teaching, but one that is always grounded in what truly matters — finding that balance between enjoyment and practical advice.

From understanding your materials and making your first brush marks, through to learning the core watercolour techniques.
You’ll quickly move into small, friendly tutorials where we paint simple subjects step-by-step; from single objects into simple scenes.
Many students are surprised by how quickly they start producing studies and full paintings!
Once you’ve grasped the foundations, these tutorials help you go a step further.
You’ll follow clear, manageable projects from drawing through to finished paintings.
They’re still simple and approachable, but begin building the skills needed for larger or more expressive work.
Before long, you’ll be creating complete paintings with confidence.
When you’re ready, you can explore the full range of tutorials inside the School.
From landscapes and wildlife to still life and people, these tutorials tend to be a little more involved and often painted at A3
size (with some larger).
They are still very accessible and work
beautifully alongside, or as a natural step on from, the Back to Basics lessons.
Don’t worry — when you join you receive full access to everything immediately.
You can explore freely and follow whatever path feels right for you, at your own pace, as it suits.
One of the most special parts of the School is the members forum.
A welcoming space where students share their paintings, ask questions, and support each other.
It’s a friendly and encouraging environment where everyone is learning together.
