Paint the Shapes - Flower Still Life : Preview

This tutorial is a real exercise (hopefully a fun one) in painting shapes, not things! Sound a bit strange? Don't worry, all will be explained.

This idea of "painting shapes not things", is a foundational principle of watercolour, particularly if we are chasing that "looseness" in our work. Not only is focusing on painting shapes an incredibly effective tool - allowing us to tackle pretty much any subject, however complex - it is also a huge amount of fun and can really open up the medium of watercolour to us.

In this Flowery Still Life, we are scaling up in size just a bit. As a result, we are also going to look at really throwing that pigment and water around in a few places.
