Whether it’s light and shadow, colour, pattern or texture, everything comes back to shapes - even in completely abstract painting!
As a result, learning to look at our subject in terms of shapes is a fantastic tool and one of the keys to successful watercolour.
I like to imagine my subject as a jigsaw of large and medium shapes of light and shadow. Not only does this make even the most complex of subjects significantly easier to paint, but it is also the foundation of freeing up our watercolours!
Join me in painting a jug of beautiful sunlit flowers to explore looking for and painting shapes; including the difference between positive and negative shapes and how we can use both of these simply but effectively!
