Whether you are just starting out, or a seasoned watercolourist, learning to look for and paint simple shapes, and asking ourselves what tonal value they are, is one of the keys to watercolour painting.
Not only does this allow us to simplify and tackle any subject, it also makes the whole watercolour process much simpler and more manageable; in turn making it much more fun, and when it's more fun we have better results!
A lot of this approach is about changing the way we look at our subject. In this tutorial, I will take you right back to the start of how we are observing and analysing our subject - looking for simple shapes and tones, then how we translate this into a painting.
I highly recommend this tutorial as it will be a great introduction to this way of looking, as well as providing the foundations for everything else to come.
This tutorial is available to watch in full with our monthly and annual paid memberships.
