Tackling a Night Scene : Preview

Something a little different this week… we’re painting a night scene!

That’s right—low light, deep shadows, man-made glow and all. It’s not something I paint often, and that’s exactly what makes it so interesting (and let’s be honest… a bit tricky!).

In this tutorial, we’ll tackle a moody night-time scene together. 

I’ll walk you through what I found challenging, what worked, and honestly, what could have gone better—because that’s where the real learning happens. 

Along the way, we’ll explore how to adapt our usual watercolour principles and simple techniques to a scene lit by street lamps and a moody evening sky, not sunlight.

Expect strong contrasts, subtle washes, and a fresh way to think about light. 

A fun one, a slightly different one—and a great chance to push your painting in a new direction, and certainly challenge ourselves!
