A glass of wine. A handful of grapes. A still life that’s far richer than it first appears.
This tutorial is all about keeping things simple and letting bold decisions do the heavy lifting.
We’ll work with clear shapes, strong tonal values, and deep, confident darks to create a loose, expressive painting with real presence — without getting tangled up in detail.
Despite the temptation to fuss (especially with all those grapes!), we’ll focus on suggestion rather than precision.
As well as looking at a very achievable depiction of a glass with liquid and reflections, we also focus on paint consistency alongside negative painting to trap the light on the glass with a big, dark background.
Simple, direct, and surprisingly bold and powerful end result!
