Learning to paint with subdued and greyed-down colours is an essential part of watercolour painting; but what about subjects that appear to actually be largely grey?
Initially, I will show you the myriad of options to mix greys, including an exploration of various tube greys versus mixing from primaries.
I will demonstrate a Gorilla using tube greys alongside colour, leading to a painting of Buzz the Dog to demonstrate creating the illusion of greys using primaries.
This topic (far from boring and grey!) is about a mixture of observation and practical colour mixing, alongside exaggerating colours and pushing greys to have more of a colour than simply a flat grey (which also has its place of course!)
All of this leads us to paintings, that whilst still a sensitive representation of our subject, do have a more life and pop to them.
