Join me in another back-to-basics tutorial of a strongly lit street scene. I love painting these sorts of subjects, as we can create a wonderful “wow” feeling of light—and even the illusion of complexity—by building up from a simple and steady, stage-by-stage process that’s easy (and fun) to follow.

This is a brilliant chance to focus on core principles: strong tonal values, a limited palette to keep colour mixing simple, and watercolour consistency—the key to success with the medium. It’s all about using watercolour simply, effectively, and with fantastic end results.
