French Church - Preview

Let’s take a trip to sunny rural France to explore light, shadow and lively brushwork.

You may well know by now that I am all about painting shapes, not things. This approach is a fantastic way to simplify any subject and immediately make it feel much more “paintable”.

In this beautiful little French Church, bathed in sunlight, there are very visibly clear shadow shapes to give the painting its structure.

This allows us to focus on simple muted colours for shadows (a great exercise in mixing beautiful, soft, coloured greys); as well as how we apply the paint - painting consistency and brushwork.

A fun and sun-filled little tutorial packed full of plenty of tips and tricks. With a lovely end result.

See you there!
