We’ve been building up the blocks of theory, often taking a more logical approach to our subject, which is important, especially when starting out. However, sometimes it’s nice to have those principles to hand to fall back on if needed, but make the focus of the painting about having fun, playing and throwing the watercolour around a bit more….that’s what this tutorial is about!!
We will still follow a familiar process and pay attention to light and shadow but there’s plenty of scope for a fun and free first light wash, with lots of lovely shadow areas where we can let the creamier mixtures run and flow. As well as plenty of opportunities to just play with the paint, work wet in wet and even splatter some opaque colour.
I hope you find this a nice example of balancing the left and right brain. Creative play meets more logical principles. This for me is where the magic of painting sits. Finding this balance is something we will continue to visit more as time goes on!
