Take a trip with me in this tutorial to paint the beautiful sun, turquoise water and golden sands of Marloes Beach - my absolute favourite beach here in Pembrokeshire, (possibly the world!)
This is a fun, fresh and simple little piece, but there’s loads of great info packed into this tutorial!
We kick off by looking at ideas to make a working composition, along with considerations around creating depth, atmosphere and a feeling of light.
Starting with a lovely light, wet into wet washes; we follow by focusing on how to block in a watercolour, setting it up to bring it to life with the shadows - which we do with bold brushstrokes and flowing washes.
Finally we take a look at selecting just the right amount of finishing touches to bring the it all to life! See you there.
Whilst Tom loves painting a wide variety of subjects, especially if the light is doing something interesting, he is always drawn back to the place where his first two passions met; painting wildlife, in particular birds.
"The free flowing and immediate nature of watercolour seems to lend itself so well to capturing the fleeting moments of wildlife; along with their movement, character and colours"
Tom's work has become widely collected in the UK and more more recently, internationally.
He has been a highly commended finalist in the World renowned Wildlife Artist of the Year, on several occasions.
Tom has also become a highly regarded, and much sought after tutor. As well as running his own workshops, he travels all over the UK teaching and demonstration for Art Groups & Societies. He also leads painting holidays in beautiful rural France.
