Building in a Landscape – Pushing the Light : Preview

We know that strong light and shadow create drama in a painting and make tackling any subject easier—but what happens when the light is soft, subtle, or barely visible?

The answer is two-fold

First, we need to learn to see the light – even in the softest conditions, there are clues that reveal how light interacts with the landscape. Once you know what to look for, this part is pretty straightforward.

Next, we have two choices. You can either paint it as it is (as covered in the Misty Boats tutorial) or push the contrast to transform the subject into a more compelling painting.

Once you have a few pointers, this topic is actually much easier than you might think!

See you there!
