This tutorial is largely focused on how we can tackle markings on birds and animals in a way that is true to their character but without getting overly fussy and complicated. As always there are a few little tricks, which not only help to integrate any markings naturally, but also accentuate the feeling of form and light on our subject.
We also talk a little about colour schemes and finding the underlying colours which create the painting, and then choosing a few little extra accents to make it pop.
Finally, what to do with backgrounds? It is all about finding that balance between interest and simplicity, abstract and literal.
