Seashore Finds - Wet in Wet Texture & Light : Preview

Ok, it’s time to dive into having some fun with watercolour, getting that paint flowing and exploring that wonderfully unique and fascinating world of watercolour painting: working wet into wet.

Shells in the sand is a slightly different subject for me, but I thought it was the perfect opportunity to break out into a more natural and fluid way of thinking about lights and darks, whilst still honouring just how important tonal contrast is in making a subject really “pop”!

In this tutorial, you will learn:

• How to work into darker tones and colour whilst your lighter tones are still wet
• How to work wet-into-wet details and darks to bring your subject to life
• How to compose a relatively flat subject like these shells in an interesting and engaging way
• How to create different types of texture and variation of colour in large, similar areas
• How to create different effects and textures by playing with the water and pigment on the page

This subject is perfect because we have smaller areas to look at all of the above in a very simple, easy-to-follow and controlled way, whilst still exploring this wonderful element of watercolour.
