How important is tone really? And how can it help us with our painting?
Well, in this tutorial, we will tackle exactly that.
Looking at the same subject, with exactly the same tones and paint consistency, we’ll explore two different ways to paint it.
One is a more step-by-step approach, with no wet-in-wet or blending, a great exercise (and actually a great result in itself).
This will show you how tone works, why it’s so important, and give you a simple but deeper understanding of a very repeatable watercolour process that can then be built upon.
The second takes exactly the same principles, but approaches them in a slightly looser, wet-in-wet way. So we’re still respecting the importance of tone, but using it in a looser, freer-flowing, more painterly, more watercolour-esque way.
I love seeing these side by side, and I think you will too... and hopefully find it extremely useful before we move forward into colour!!
