Painting with lots of contrast is a surefire way to give a painting some drama, excitement and a good bit of oomph!
We don't always need to push contrast to the extreme, but when we do decide to there are a few key principles and little tricks which can really help.
In this tutorial, I will take right from the initial thoughts and planning stages, through to painting lots of lovely deep darks to hold the painting together and make it pop.
From a technical point of view, this tutorial on the two boats is also a great opportunity to look at how to mix deep rich darks, and also how to add those little hits of details which can bring a painting to life. We will also touch briefly on painting reflections (not as hard as it seems).
