So much of watercolour is about learning to look for and paint light and shadows. Not only is watercolour a medium made for doing so, but this approach is also a great way to tackle any subject however overwhelming it may initially feel!
This tutorial of a Lion is an introduction to this basic but essential concept, with many of the topics discussed being ones we will revisit time and time again.
I will take you through the thought process and planning stages in order to show you how to start looking at your subject in a different way. You will then be guided through the painting, always aiming to keep the simple pattern of light and shadow in mind - we can then see what sort of final painting this will give us!
We're going to keep the tonal values simple so we can have a bit of a play with colour too.
