Cuban Street Scene - Composition (and tackling cars)
In this tutorial, we dive into the heart of Havana, exploring how to break down a busy, bustling scene into something manageable, paintable, and full of atmosphere.
I love a good street scene, but there’s often a lot going on—and they don’t always make a great painting exactly as they are.
We’ll look closely at composition: what to include, what to leave out, and how to arrange the elements so the painting feels alive.
And yes, we’ll even tackle two tricky subjects (for me anyway): cars & people! You’ll see how to simplify them, suggest rather than overwork, and make them sit naturally in the scene without becoming a headache.
By the end, you’ll come away with practical tools for turning a complex subject into a joyful painting, full of the colour and character of Cuba—and ready to apply to any of your favourite places too.
